Privacy & your data

Updated October 2, 2026.

Saved on your device

Your saved stories, reading position, text size, and reading color preference stay in your browser’s local storage. There is no account or cloud synchronization. Clear this site’s browser data to remove those preferences. If storage is blocked, the reading controls still work during your visit.

Reading and site security

This website has no advertising pixels. Vercel hosts the site and processes access logs, IP addresses, and device information to deliver and protect it. The signup form uses Vercel BotID to distinguish browser requests from automated abuse; it may process browser and device signals for that purpose.

Optional visitor analytics

When analytics is enabled on this site, we ask before loading Google Analytics. Accept analytics allows Google to process page visits, engagement, browser and device information, and approximate location derived from your IP address. Google processes this information to provide our site statistics. Reject analytics keeps the Google tag unloaded; reading and newsletter features remain available.

We do not send newsletter addresses, confirmation tokens, URL query strings, or URL fragments to Analytics. Newsletter confirmation and unsubscribe pages are excluded. Advertising personalization and Google signals are disabled. Automatic form, download, search, video, and outbound-link measurement are disabled.

Your choice is saved in this browser for 180 days. If you accept, Google uses first-party cookies beginning with _ga to distinguish visits; we set their lifetime to 180 days without extending it on each visit. Browser settings may shorten this period. Use Cookie settings in the footer to change your choice. Rejecting after acceptance stops future collection, removes this site’s Analytics cookies, and reloads the page to unload the tag. It does not erase data already processed by Google.

Google may process data outside your country, including in the United States. Read Google’s privacy policy and how Google uses information from sites using its services. For questions about Distant Library’s data practices, contact chill@distantlibrary.com.

Letters from the library

When you request a subscription, your email address is sent to Resend to deliver a confirmation link. You join the mailing list only after confirming. We then store your email address, confirmation time, signup source, and the version of the consent wording in Resend so we can send the emails you requested and keep a record of your permission.

Emails cover new fiction, music, and occasional notes from the making of Distant Library. We don’t sell your address. Open and click tracking are disabled for our sending domain; Resend still processes delivery, bounce, and complaint information to operate the service.

You can unsubscribe using the link in a newsletter or write to chill@distantlibrary.com. An unsubscribe record may be retained to prevent further mail. Contact the same address to ask about, correct, or delete your subscriber information. Unconfirmed requests are not added to our subscriber list, though the delivery provider may retain the confirmation email and its delivery logs.

Our service providers’ policies explain their processing: Resend privacy policy and Vercel privacy policy.

Music and other websites

Music links open YouTube or Suno in a new tab. This website does not host song files or embed music players. Those services’ privacy policies apply when you visit them. Other external links also take you to the destination’s own website.
